Euthanasia

Euthanize rats by asphyxiation with carbon dioxide or use a baton to apply a sharp blow to the base of the skull.  

Disposal

Check your state regulations regarding disposal of carcasses. Dead rats, particularly when toxicants are used, should be disposed of to prevent scavengers from feeding on the carcasses.
