Chewing Gum
We were surprised about this one as the "chewing gum" myth is normally asserted for the control of moles. Nevertheless, we learned that at least one person heard that chewing gum could be used to control voles. We assume the idea is the vole chews the gum and then either chokes on it or the gum binds up his intestines.

Why It's Misguided-- Assuming voles would even eat the gum, there is no evidence that suggests they would be harmed enough to die from such action. So if you buy gum, chew it yourself. Don't waste your time trying to use chewing gum to kill voles or other kinds of meadow mice.
