Tuna Can
Drive a galvanized nail through a can of tuna (packed in oil) high up into a tree so that the raccoon will lick around the galvanized nail to get the fish oil that leaks out. The idea is that since galvanized material is toxic, it will poison the raccoon after a few visits.
Why It's Misguided-- Assuming galvinized material is toxic to the raccoon, how does one prevent non-targets from eating it? Second, how cruel does a technique have to be before people choose not to use it.
