Target audiences for outreach programs include private landowners, land managers, natural resource professionals, outdoor recreationists, policy makers, government officials, and the general public. Outreach efforts and programs are delivered by a variety of methods that include publications, workshops, shortcourses, conferences, demonstrations, field tours, videos, PowerPoint programs, television, radio, satellite and closed-circuit television and web-based sites. Past research efforts are applied in nature and include investigations to determine the economic impacts of hunting of rural communities in South Carolina, the relationship of deer density to crop damage, and methods to reduce deer damage to agriculture settings in South Carolina. Dr. Yarrow teaches an applied undergraduate and graduate Wildlife Damage Management course and also team teaches several wildlife ecology courses. His coauthored book, Managing Wildlife (1999 Sweetwater Press) is used as a reference manual by natural resource professionals and freshman college text on management of wildlife in forest and agricultural landscapes.
