White-tail deerChronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a prion based diseased that affects the neurological health of its victims.

CWD affects deer, elk, and moose (cervids).

 

CWD Timeline

Pre-2005--only found west of Illinois

New York--2005

Kansas--2006

West Virginia--2005, 2006,

As of 04/2007 all New England states are CWD free (Source: Connecticut Wildlife March/April 2007. p. 16).
